The CD & DVD manufacturing process is such that each order goes through various stages before they are finally shipped to you. Due to large number of quantities produced, there could be extra copies. How are CDs & DVDs made?
There are two major & popular methods to get content on Optical media, A) Replication, B) Duplication, also known as Burning Process.
We only offer & support Replication, we do not offer Duplication.
Burning process is when one uses the CD Recordable media/Blank CD and "burns" the information on the blank CD. This is typically done on a CD Burner or a bank of CD Recorders. This is time consuming and usually involves a person sitting and putting and removing the blank media from the burners. This process of burning CD’s or DVD’s is very tedious & with high rejects, more so the quality of such mass duplicated
CD-R & DVD-R is far more inferior to Replication of CD & DVD.
Replication: This process involves transferring the content of any type of input on to a stamper/die that will now be installed in a special purpose machine designed to mass produce Polycarbonate prerecorded substrates, these substrates are then processed with reflective & protective layers to make them Pre-recorded CD & DVD. Label printing is done on these CD’s & DVD’s using Offset technology. Printed CD’s & DVD’s are now counted & packed in Packaging.
How do you print the CDs? Do you apply stickers on them?
There are two major methods available today for Printing CD’s & DVD’s, A) Screen Printing, B) Offset Printing, Screen Printing is old technology & does not give good image results, we only make use of Offset printing process, that uses four basic colors CYMK to separate from any given design & then machine will process wet on wet printing giving excellent quality & resolution for the images. We do not apply any stickers neither do we encourage any of our customer to do so.
Do you have in-house stamper making facilities?
Yes we have in-house stamper making facilities, that enables us to expedite the processes & delivery within short notices, while customer remains secured with his content not being exposed to third parties.
Can I have my master & stampers back? Do you return stampers?
We do not return the Stampers as they are our property. At your request, your masters can be returned to you. We do not guarantee the quality of your masters which are kept with us beyond 90 days due to our harsh weather. We advise that Customers should make and keep Original Copies of their masters as safe as possible.
What format of inputs do you consider to be best for quality Replication of CD & DVD?
Wave for Audio & MOV for Video CD & DVD will make work faster & give excellent quality.
Do you check the masters given to you before you commence mass production?
Customers are advised to complete their post production editing and all necessary quality assurance checks before delivering their masters to us. We only guarantee delivery of exact (replicas) of the masters given to us. Our checking of your masters does not in any way place responsibility of poor quality masters on us.
During stamper making process, the mastering machine automatically carries out verification of content in terms of EFM & makes attempts to copy it. Any error discovered during this process may
result into rejection of the master source, which cannot be altered or corrected at our end; hence in this case production cannot continue. Such errors are generated during authoring of the content & can be corrected only at the same stage or level.
When do I expect preview copy for my job.
At your request, we can send a pre view copy of your master before mass production. Also we may also send preview copies if we notice any error in your master. It is however your responsibility to submit good and verified master contents to save time. A no time do we accept responsibility of a poor quality master.
Why do you make another copy out of my master & do not use the master itself?
The master that customers bring can be in any format, while the stamper making machine can only accept its standard input, hence all the jobs that we get are transformed into an acceptable input for stamper making processes.
What types of inputs are required for Label Printing?
Below is the list of acceptable SOFTWARES and FORMATS/EXTENSION for artwork submission from customers.
Why do insist on having full address of the customer & marketer on the label printing?
From our experience we have noticed that title name can be very common & that in turn can cause confusions, details of customer & marketer can help to first distinguish between two or many similar title name, but at the same time can help the customer to market his name & firm. If not used we end up increasing probability of producing wrong jobs & delivering it to another customer, as we cannot confirm the ownership of titles by just playing them, neither do we understand all the languages. Hence these details are mandatory.
Why are your Company name, Logo & serial number mandatory on my label & content?
We strictly follow our ethics on matters subjected to Piracy & hence we maintain “Zero Tolerance for Piracy”. In order to establish tractability of company that produced the job we insist on maintaining these details on the label printing, while the back side, mirror band will carry NCC mandated IFPI code that is unique for all available machines in Nigeria & cannot be altered or changed & hence it helps them to trace back the CD or DVD to the machine from where it was produced, in summary these are measures being taken at international levels to reduce chances of Piracy of your own content.
What is the life of a stamper?
Under normal circumstances a good quality stamper can produce maximum of 100,000 copies before the electrical signals starts dropping, but we can never claim as any mechanical mishap can damage the geometry of the stamper that can result into non-playability of CD & DVD.
What is the life of a CD?
It all depends upon the use, if untouched from under it can serve for decades. But if the surface under any CD & DVD starts getting scratches & marks than the playability gets affected. Direct sunlight or contact with water or any another matter can certainly affect the life of CD & DVD.
Why do I need a white base for printing?
CD & DVD have reflective layer upon which the Label printing is done, not all designs are able to cover this full reflective layer & that may make the image look different than how it looks on system, it is because of this very reason we put a glossy white background so that all and any type of design can appear as good.
What does the price include?
The price includes replication, printing of label on the product, packaging in 100pc shrink nylon and 1,000 pcs per carton and delivery to Lagos and Onitsha.
